One-Punch Man: Season 02 (2023) TV Series Explained

Episode 13: Return of the Hero

As Saitama and Genos return from the grocery store, they encounter King, the S-Class Hero ranked 7. Contrary to popular belief, King isn't actually the strongest man alive; he's just an ordinary Otaku who happened to be at the scene whenever monsters were defeated, thus gaining credit for the victories. King finds himself running from an enemy once again, but Saitama comes to his rescue, effortlessly defeating the threat. Grateful, King recognizes Saitama as the hero who had saved him in the past. Following the rescue, Saitama and King spend time playing video games while Genos undergoes upgrades from G4's equipment, having defeated the powerful robot. Meanwhile, the President of the Hero Association makes a surprising announcement: the association will be hiring villains as well. Speed-O'-Sound Sonic, upon realizing Saitama's absence from the meeting, leaves in frustration. As tensions rise, a man named Garou interrupts the meeting, capturing everyone's attention.

Episode 14: The Human Monster

In the midst of the Hero Association meeting, Garou, a self-proclaimed monster enthusiast, barges in, unleashing a storm of insults directed at both heroes and villains. He declares everyone as his enemy and proceeds to beat up everyone present, except for Sitch, leaving them battered and bruised as a warning. Meanwhile, back at Saitama's house, Saitama is engrossed in playing video games on the PlayStation Portable he "borrowed" from King, while Genos is occupied with household chores. Suddenly, Speed-O'-Sound Sonic shows up at the door, desperately trying to find Saitama. As Genos and Sonic engage in a fierce battle elsewhere, Fubuki, also known as Hellish Blizzard, arrives at Saitama's doorstep. Fubuki attempts to recruit Saitama to her faction, but he refuses. In a desperate attempt to persuade him, she orders her underlings to attack him. However, Saitama effortlessly defeats them. Fubuki then tries to attack Saitama with her psychic abilities, but to no avail. Saitama berates her for surrounding herself with weaker underlings to make herself look stronger, warning her that she could face a villain stronger than her entire faction combined. Ignoring his warning, Fubuki tries to attack him again, but Saitama intervenes when he sees Sonic and Genos fighting, saving Fubuki from an imminent explosion. The battle between Sonic and Genos reaches a stalemate, as Sonic's speed is matched by Genos's durability. Genos attempts to create a massive explosion, but Saitama knocks him down to prevent his apartment from being destroyed. Saitama then challenges Sonic to a fight, effortlessly surpassing Sonic's shadow clone technique with his own Killer Move: Serious Series Sideway Jumps, leaving Sonic shocked and defeated. Fubuki watches in awe as Saitama effortlessly defeats Sonic, a seemingly powerful opponent. Later, in Saitama's apartment, Fubuki reveals that she is the younger sister of Tatsumaki, the S-Class Hero ranked 2. She explains that due to Tatsumaki's overwhelming strength, she has gathered underlings to make herself stronger. Genos questions why she doesn't strive to become Class A Rank 1, but Fubuki explains that she can't surpass Amai Mask, the current holder of the position. Elsewhere, Amai Mask brutally kills a monstrous caveman named Suppon, further emphasizing Fubuki's point. Fubuki tries once again to convince Saitama to join her faction, but he refuses. Fubuki criticizes him for his low ranking, but she is taken aback when King arrives to retrieve his video game. Saitama awkwardly explains that he accidentally broke the PSP and erased King's saved data. As a result of his appearance, the Hero Association gives Saitama the hero name Bald Cape, while Genos is named Demon Cyborg due to his aggressive fighting style. In the closing scene, Garou defeats Tank Top Vegetarian in an alleyway, setting the stage for more chaos and conflict in the future.

Episode 15: The Hunt Begins

The episode begins with a tense moment as Silver Fang severely beats and expels his pupil, Charanko, from his dojo. Confused and hurt, Charanko seeks solace with Saitama and Genos, who are surprised to find King and Fubuki already in Saitama's apartment. Genos deduces that Charanko was expelled because of Garou, one of Silver Fang's previous students, and that Silver Fang likely kicked Charanko out to protect him from Garou's wrath. One night, while walking home, Charanko witnesses Garou picking a fight with Mumen Rider, the Class C Rank 1 Hero. Before they can fight, Tank Top Vegetarian and his crew arrive to confront Garou. Garou effortlessly defeats Tank Top Vegetarian again, but Tank Top Master steps in to stop him. Excited for the chance to fight an S-Class hero, Garou engages in battle with Tank Top Master. Although Tank Top Master gains the upper hand initially, Garou uses his trump card, the Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist, Silver Fang's signature fighting style, to defeat Tank Top Master, Mumen Rider, Charanko, and the entire Tank Top gang. Seeing the severity of the situation, Bang calls his brother, Bomb, to help deal with the Garou threat. Together, they stumble upon the beaten bodies of Tank Top Master's crew and Charanko the next day. Meanwhile, Saitama visits Mumen Rider in the hospital and learns about Garou's martial arts from Tank Top Master. Garou, on the other hand, finds a boy named Tareo who is reading a hero almanac. Garou plans to take out Class A Hero, Golden Ball, and successfully accomplishes his mission. Curious about martial arts, Saitama decides to attend a mixed martial arts tournament. Charanko gives him a ticket but warns him that the tournament will disqualify any impersonators. However, Saitama pays no heed to the warning. On his way to the tournament, Saitama encounters a pimp harassing a woman. Garou arrives on the scene and mistakenly thinks Saitama wants to fight him. Ignoring Saitama's protests, Garou attacks, but his blows have no effect on Saitama. Annoyed, Saitama swiftly knocks Garou out with a chop to the back of the neck. In a post-credit scene, Genos catches Saitama trying on a wig for the tournament. To help Saitama maintain his disguise, Genos asks Dr. Kuseno to implant artificial fibers, much to Saitama's annoyance.

Episode 16: The Metal Bat

The episode delves into Garou's childhood, revealing that he always rooted for the "bad guys" because he found the "good guys" too popular. His father tried to console him, saying that good would always triumph over evil, but Garou couldn't shake the feeling that the monsters were always unfairly portrayed as "freaks" who lost simply because of how they looked. Determined to change this perception, Garou set out to become the strongest monster. After his defeat by Saitama, Garou wakes up with no memory of what happened. He meets up with Tareo and decides to find Watchdog Man and Metal Bat. Meanwhile, Saitama signs up for a fighting tournament. As he looks over the list of contestants, he encounters Sour Face, a former disciple of Bang. Sour Face plans to win the tournament to become famous like Bang. Sour Face reveals that the previous year, a contestant named Wolfman won the tournament. However, authorities discovered the real Wolfman tied up, prompting a new rule against participants wearing disguises, enforced with a lifetime ban and heavy fines. Saitama learns that six months earlier, Garou rampaged through the dojo, injuring many students, including Sour Face. Garou received a beating from Bang and was expelled from the dojo, causing Sour Face to quit as well. When Sour Face insults "Charanko," Saitama stands up for him, vowing to win the tournament. Sour Face is angered by Saitama's defiance. Meanwhile, the Hero Association assigns S-Class Heroes to protect its officials from monster attacks. King manages to escape by lying, claiming he is fighting a secret boss when he is actually playing a video game. Metal Bat is assigned to babysit Narinki, a VIP sponsor of the Hero Association, and his son Waganma at a Mouse Sushi restaurant in S-City. When Metal Bat receives a call from his sister, two monsters, Junior Centipede and Venus Mantrap, attack Narinki and Waganma. Metal Bat quickly dispatches them, but another monster, Senior Centipede, appears. A monster named Raffleseidon arrives and releases sleeping gas, knocking out Narinki and Waganma. Metal Bat is forced to endure multiple hits from Senior Centipede until he smashes his own head, pumping adrenaline into his system. This renders the gas ineffective, allowing him to kill the two Demon-level monsters with one blow each. As two local heroes take Narinki and Waganma to safety, a Dragon-level monster named Elder Centipede attacks Metal Bat. During the fight, Elder Centipede knocks Metal Bat near Garou. Thinking Metal Bat is dead, Garou plans to find Watchdog Man. However, Metal Bat gets back up, and Garou decides to fight him instead. In a post-credit scene, a martial artist named Suiryu asks two girls to lead him to the Fight tournament.

Episode 17: The Martial Arts Tournament

The episode begins with Metal Knight's futile attempt to defeat Elder Centipede. Despite his advanced weaponry, Metal Knight is unable to even scratch the behemoth monster. Garou, after a lengthy battle, manages to defeat Metal Bat, but begrudgingly admits that Metal Bat would have won if he had managed to land even a single hit. As Garou prepares to strike Metal Bat down, Metal Bat's younger sister, Zenko, finds him. Garou hesitates, having a soft spot for kids, and walks away to continue his hunt for Watchdog Man. Metal Bat, determined to continue the fight against Elder Centipede, tries to get up but collapses due to the extensive damage he sustained from battling both Elder Centipede and Garou. Zenko slaps him back down to get him to stop, and Metal Bat reluctantly relents. Meanwhile, two C-Class heroes, Pineapple and Mohican, who are escorting Narinki and Waganma, are confronted by Rhino Wrestler. The heroes are swiftly defeated, and the monsters capture Waganma. Phoenix Man and Sludge Jellyfish try to persuade Garou to join the Monster Association, but Garou refuses. Phoenix Man promises Garou that they will meet again if Garou continues to hunt heroes, and orders Elder Centipede and the other monsters to retreat. Metal Knight follows them. Bang and Bomb continue their search for Garou. Frustrated, Bang unleashes his anger on a Demon-level monster named Boxing Demon, ruthlessly killing him with a barrage of blows. Many monsters of different disaster levels, including Marshall Gorilla, Do-S, Hundred Eyes Octopus, Pure-Blood, and Make Plasma, start attacking heroes, causing concern for the Hero Association. Fubuki intervenes just in time to save Dynamite Man from Do-S's mind-controlled heroes. Meanwhile, at the Fight Tournament, Saitama is introduced to Bakuzan, Suiryu, Lightning Max, Ring Ring, Hamukichi, Choze, Zakkos, and Snek, with Genos watching from the crowd. Suiryu notices Bakuzan's bloodlust toward him, but Bakuzan is only interested in the prize money. Suiryu expresses his disappointment that he couldn't fight against Wolfman (Garou in disguise). After Lightning Max defeats Ring Ring, Zakkos reveals that the fighters are often paired up based on their looks. Saitama deduces that Zakkos is weak since he's paired up with Saitama, angering Zakkos. In a post-credit scene, Saitama slaps Zakkos, defeating him in one hit, much to Saitama's annoyance. Suiryu, impressed by Saitama's strength, eagerly looks forward to facing him in the finals.

Episode 18: The Monster Uprising

In the midst of the tournament, Lightning Max faces Suiryu and loses the match. Genos receives a message about numerous monsters converging around the tournament area. Snakebite Snek defeats his opponent Benpatsu, and the announcers receive reports about the growing monster threat. Despite the warnings, Bakuzan convinces them not to evacuate the audience. Sourface emerges victorious in his fight against Jakuman, but he excitedly tells "Charanko" (Saitama) about his win, only to realize that Saitama had gone to the bathroom. Meanwhile, Saitama faces off against Bakuzan. Bakuzan sadistically describes how he plans to defeat Saitama, but when he touches Saitama's wig and boasts about knocking his "hair" off, Saitama comically punches him out of the tournament with a single hit, leaving Suiryu impressed by his strength. Genos manages to eliminate all but one of the monsters, with the last one, the Demon-level Awakened Cockroach, narrowly escaping. While Genos's back is turned, he is suddenly ambushed by a mysterious being. Some Hero Association members find Pineapple and Mohican, and learn that Waganma was captured, but not Narinki. Meanwhile, Do-S successfully manages to brainwash all of Fubuki's henchmen. However, Fubuki repels them back. Do-S reveals that she's attacking Fubuki to provoke Tatsumaki, but Fubuki warns her that Tatsumaki will sense her distress. As if on cue, a monster appears before Do-S, and Tatsumaki arrives shortly after. Do-S orders Fubuki's mind-controlled henchmen to attack Tatsumaki while she escapes. However, Tatsumaki effortlessly knocks the henchmen into nearby buildings. She lectures Fubuki, warning her that surrounding herself with henchmen will only make her weaker, before flying away. Suiryu and Sneck face off in the tournament. Suiryu casually avoids Sneck's attacks, questioning his reasons for fighting. He taunts Sneck, stating that he sought power with no clear agenda. Suiryu's nonchalant attitude enrages Sneck, but Suiryu easily knocks him out with a single blow, asserting that the truly strong will always survive. In the post-credit scene, Garou spots Watchdog Man, while Saitama is still in the bathroom. It's revealed that a Dragon-level monster named Gouketsu defeated Genos. Amai Mask's concert is attacked by monsters, and another group of monsters targets a hospital where Mumen Rider and Tank Top Master are located. Meanwhile, a monster named Nyan searches for Puri Puri Prisoner, only to discover that Puri Puri Prisoner has escaped from prison to confront the monsters. Additionally, two monsters named Gyoro Gyoro and Orochi have captured Metal Knight.

Episode 19: The Class S Heroes

In the aftermath of Eyesight's attack, Child Emperor, ranked 5th in the S Class Heroes, devises a plan to analyze the monster's poisons using his robot, Underdog Man No. 22. Unfortunately, the plan backfires, as Eyesight's hardened skin renders the robot ineffective. Just as Eyesight is about to attack Child Emperor, she is suddenly devoured by Pig God, the 10th ranked S Class Hero. Undeterred, Pig God turns his attention to the other monsters wreaking havoc in Y-City. Meanwhile, Garou's attempt to confront Watchdog Man is thwarted by another monster. Drive Knight, ranked 9th among the S Class Heroes, interrogates a monster he spared after defeating the others. Death Gatling, an A Class Hero ranked 8th, gathers a group of heroes to battle Hundred Eyes Octopus. Before they can engage, Flashy Flash, the 13th ranked S Class Hero, arrives and severely injures Hundred Eyes Octopus with his incredible speed. Just as Flashy Flash prepares to deliver the final blow, Tatsumaki, the 2nd ranked S Class Hero, arrives and effortlessly finishes off Hundred Eyes Octopus. She criticizes Flashy Flash for being too slow before leaving, prompting Flashy Flash to retort with an insult of his own. Amai Mask continues to eliminate monsters during his concert, while Mumen Rider and Tank Top Master successfully defeat monsters at the hospital. In a meeting with the Council of Swordsmasters, Atomic Samurai learns that Haragiri has sided with the Monster Association. Haragiri presents the sword masters with monster cells, which grant immense power at the cost of their humanity. When Haragiri attempts to kill Atomic Samurai, he is swiftly dispatched, and Atomic Samurai, along with his disciples, sets out to find the Monster Association base. In the Super Fight Tournament, Saitama progresses through the rounds, defeating Sourface and Choze. He faces Suiryu in the finals, with Suiryu determined to show Saitama the true essence of martial arts. During the fight, Suiryu expresses his disdain for the hero lifestyle, arguing that strength should be used for thrill-seeking rather than heroics. He tries to persuade Saitama to abandon the hero path, claiming it is dull and pointless. Suiryu kicks Saitama in the head, knocking off his wig and revealing his bald head. Exposed, Saitama retaliates, but instead of delivering a punch, he restrains himself, creating a powerful shockwave that blows off Suiryu's clothes. Although Saitama is disqualified, Suiryu attacks him in a fit of rage, unleashing his most powerful technique, the Void Phoenix Ascension Fist. However, Saitama remains unfazed. He explains that martial arts are about looking cool and having fun. As Suiryu continues to attack, Saitama effortlessly knocks him into a wall, causing his pants to fall down. Despite the humiliating defeat, Suiryu is left in shock. In the post-credit scene, Genos awakens amidst the wreckage, and a monster is heading toward the Martial Arts Tournament, signaling the impending chaos.

Episode 20: The Resistance of the Strong

As Suiryu receives his trophy, Gouketsu, the monster who attacked Genos, suddenly appears along with his monstrous minions, knocking out Lightning Max and Snek. Gouketsu, a former martial arts champion, reveals that he was kidnapped by Orochi and Gyoro a few years ago. They offered him a monster cell in exchange for his freedom. Consuming the monster cell, Gouketsu became intoxicated with power and transformed into a full-fledged monster. He then offered monster cells to some of the martial artists, including Choze, who accepted and transformed. Suiryu bravely confronts Choze and the other monsters, openly defying Gouketsu by rejecting the monster cell. Enraged, Gouketsu orders his monstrous minions to attack the remaining martial artists, while he personally pummels Suiryu. Meanwhile, Bakuzan, witnessing the chaos, admits his resentment towards Suiryu but acknowledges his superiority. To prevent Suiryu from being tempted by the monster cells, Bakuzan consumes three of them himself. However, the strain is too much for him, and Bakuzan collapses. Before Gouketsu's monstrous minions, the dolomites, can harm Suiryu further, Lightning Max and Snek come to his rescue. Together, they defeat the dolomites. Lightning Max and Snek decide to stall Gouketsu to allow Suiryu to get help. However, Bakuzan, now in his monstrous form, returns and brutally attacks Suiryu. Meanwhile, Mumen Rider and Tank Top Master are defending the hospital where Charanko is recuperating. Bakuzan, having defeated Suiryu, arrogantly proclaims himself as the strongest. However, Gouketsu warns him that there are monsters even stronger than him. He receives a message from Gyoro to retreat as S Class Heroes are approaching. Gouketsu cautions Bakuzan against getting too arrogant. Suiryu, barely conscious, pleads for help, and just in time, Saitama arrives to save Lightning Max and Snek from Bakuzan's wrath. He faces off against Bakuzan, ready to put an end to the chaos.

Episode 21: The Troubles of the Strongest

Bakuzan recognizes Saitama as the one who defeated him previously and challenges him, but Saitama effortlessly dispatches him with a single punch. With Bakuzan defeated, Saitama introduces himself to Suiryu as a hero. He explains that he entered the martial arts tournament to locate the hero hunter, Garou, and to experience martial arts firsthand. Although Saitama plans to leave, Suiryu pleads with him to stay, warning of Gouketsu's presence. However, Saitama disregards the warning. As Suiryu hears the sounds of a violent struggle, he fears that Gouketsu has killed Saitama. To his surprise, Saitama returns unharmed, holding Gouketsu's decapitated head. Saitama asks Suiryu to keep the events a secret, and Suiryu, in turn, requests to become a hero under Saitama's guidance. Although Saitama agrees that anyone can become a hero, he declines Suiryu's request to be his disciple. Meanwhile, Puri Puri Prisoner manages to defeat a demon-level monster called Free Hugger by embracing it so tightly that it explodes. However, Puri Puri Prisoner receives distressing news that his cellmates have been captured by monsters. While walking and contemplating his life after a conversation with C Class hero Water Gun, Saitama experiences an existential crisis. Despite his achievements in martial arts and within the Hero Association, he feels unfulfilled and bored. King encounters Saitama and attempts to help him find meaning in his heroism. He suggests that Saitama's relentless pursuit of strength has caused him to lose sight of his true purpose as a hero. Although Saitama initially rejects King's advice as boring, King challenges him to a video game match using only two fingers. This sparks Saitama's competitive spirit, reigniting his passion. Meanwhile, Garou is defeated by Watchdog Man, whose unpredictable fighting style overwhelms him. Filled with adrenaline and a desire to learn, Garou encounters King. He prepares to attack him, but before he can, Saitama intervenes, kicking Garou into a concrete wall. Saitama mentions the presence of a hero hunter, expressing excitement at the prospect of facing him. As Genos is taken for repairs by Dr. Kuseno, Sonic is training when he is attacked by two powerful ninja warriors named Gale Wind and Hellfire Flame. They offer Sonic monster cells to enhance his strength. Sonic consumes the cells, but his cooking method renders them ineffective, causing him to suffer from diarrhea instead. Zombieman, an S Class Hero, observes Martial Gorilla. When Martial Gorilla encounters Armored Gorilla, a battle ensues, with Armored Gorilla knocking Martial Gorilla unconscious. Zombieman decides to follow Armored Gorilla. Bang and Bomb discuss Garou, and a monster infiltrates the Hero Association to deliver a message.

They take a break, and King tells Saitama about the phone's function. Suddenly, Gyoro-Gyoro and Destrochloridum take control of an executive in the Hero Association. They negotiate for a future where monsters and humans can coexist. However, Destrochloridum kills an executive, revealing their true intentions: to lure the heroes into an all-out battle against the entire Monster Association. The plan involves facing the monsters before the vessel controlled by Gyoro-Gyoro explodes. As Destrochloridum moves to attack the remaining executives, Superalloy Darkshine, an S Class Hero, arrives and kills him. Despite the monster's attempts to control him, Superalloy Darkshine remains unaffected. Gyoro-Gyoro and Monster King Orochi hold a meeting for the monsters, outlining their plan to fight against the heroes. Orochi consumes Awakened Cockroach for his failure against Genos. Do-S is spared by Orochi, recognized for her special abilities. Orochi then inquires about Gouketsu, only to learn that Gouketsu has been killed. Death Gatling arrives with his crew to confront Garou. Garou notices Tareo's almanac before facing off against the heroes. As Garou attacks, he is overwhelmed by the heroes' coordinated assault. Despite taking poisoned arrows to the back, he continues to fight. Recognizing the heroes' teamwork, Garou targets Glasses, assuming him to be the weakest link. However, Garou is surprised to find Glasses ready and able to fight. The heroes give Garou one last chance to surrender, hoping to end the conflict peacefully.

Episode 23: The Varieties of Pride

rewrite about this storyline in 900 words

Death Gatling explains to his crew why they need to take down Garou: to earn respect from the Hero Association. He criticizes the association for its focus on S Class heroes, ignoring the hard work of lower-ranked heroes. The battle begins, and Garou swiftly takes down Chain Toad, Shooter, Gun Gun, and Wildhorn. Death Gatling opens fire on Garou, but Garou manages to get close to Glasses. Remembering his past failures, Glasses feels overwhelmed. Saitama, who had once saved Glasses, encourages him to move forward and not dwell on his past mistakes. Despite Glasses's efforts, Garou defeats him and Stinger, leaving Death Gatling the only one standing. Garou tries to warn Death Gatling about the kid in the shed, but Death Gatling doesn't believe him and unleashes his final move, Death Shower. Garou redirects the bullets, saving Tareo. He then defeats Death Gatling, insulting his pride. Tareo, witnessing the defeated heroes, runs away in fear. After the battle, Garou seeks water to recover. Genos, alerted by Glasses's signal, arrives at the scene. Meanwhile, Saitama and King, stressed out after a video game match, receive a signal from Genos's location. They set out to find Genos, knowing that he often gets into trouble. Genos and Garou engage in a fierce battle, with Genos pinning Garou to a tree with his robot hand. Genos almost defeats Garou, but Garou manages to escape, proclaiming himself as the undefeatable monster. Genos counters, stating that Saitama will always defeat any monster because he is incredibly strong. This statement surprises Garou, who asks who Saitama is. Suddenly, a group of monsters ambush Genos, but he swiftly eliminates them all. Genos, reflecting on his past mistakes, vows to become stronger. He is about to attack Garou again when Bang intervenes, kicking Garou in the head. Bomb arrives with Bang and together they defeat more monsters. Bang requests Genos to leave Garou to him. As Bang and Garou prepare to fight, Bang remembers their first encounter.

Episode 24: The Wiping of the Disciple's Butt

Silver Fang and Bomb relentlessly attack Garou, triggering his memories of being bullied by his classmates, especially by Tat-Chan. Garou's hatred for heroes stems from his belief that people become heroes to prey on the weak, as Tat-Chan and others did to him. Repelling Silver Fang and Bomb, Garou is saved by Phoenix Man. Genos, determined to defeat both Garou and Phoenix Man, is about to attack them when Phoenix Man summons Elder Centipede to their aid. Despite Silver Fang and Bomb's efforts, Elder Centipede proves to be a formidable opponent. Genos, attempting to hold off Elder Centipede, is quickly overpowered and begins to doubt his own abilities. Feeling worthless for failing to defeat the monstrous creature, Genos starts to lose hope. Meanwhile, Silver Fang decides to take on Elder Centipede alone. Just when Elder Centipede is about to strike King, claiming he will crush him, Saitama arrives. King, using his persuasive skills, tricks Elder Centipede into believing that Blast, the top-ranked S Class Hero, has arrived to fight. As Elder Centipede turns his attention to King, Saitama delivers a powerful Serious Punch, defeating the monster instantly. In the aftermath, Saitama and Genos cross paths amidst the destruction. Genos asks Saitama what he lacks, and Saitama simply responds, "Power." This realization shakes Genos, much to King's despair. However, Genos also finds hope in the idea of becoming stronger. The episode concludes with Saitama inviting the remaining heroes to his apartment.

In the post-credit scene, exhausted, Garou finally passes out, and Phoenix Man decides to take him to Orochi.
